GENERAL PLASTERING

Traditional wet plaster gives an excellent, smooth and long-lasting finish that’s perfect whether you’re wallpapering later or if you just want to paint your walls and leave them as they are. You’ll get a pristine, slightly shiny surface with no bumps, cracks or dips, that’ll give you an excellent surface for your decorating and ensure a good finish.
Wet plastering is the process of applying either a gypsum backing or cement render onto blockwork, and then finishing it with a thin coat of gypsum. You get better soundproofing with wet plaster, and it can give a much better finish with great sealing around openings.
We’ll do a site or home visit, take a look at your space and the surfaces to be plastered and then advise you on whether you would be better with wet plastering or dry lining. We’ll then give you a price and tell you how long the project will take, along with how long you’ll need to leave the plaster before you can decorate.
Once you’ve given us the go ahead, we’ll carefully prepare every surface ready for plastering, including removing any lumps and bumps, cleaning away any oily spots and washing down to remove any loose material, before carefully applying your new wet plaster to a perfect, smooth finish.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ

Isn’t dry lining a lot faster than wet plastering?

It is, and it’ll certainly be ready quicker for decorating, but you might not get the smooth finish you want, and you could have difficulties attaching radiators and putting up shelves if you use dry lining.

Couldn’t you just re-skim my old plaster rather than starting from scratch?

Yes, possibly. It’ll depend on how good the quality is of your existing plaster. If we can re-skim, we will, but we’ll also tell you honestly if your old plaster can’t be rescued.

How long does wet plastering take to dry before I can decorate?

In a very warm room, it could be as little as three weeks, but it usually takes four to six weeks to be fully dry, and you must leave it to be fully dry before either painting or wallpapering.
